Post subject:  Excessive Noise Coming from the Chalk Pit

Steve Gebbett (Longdown Lane North writes) - Just to confirm that the Environment Agency (Helen Worth) has indeed been to our house to listen to the 1st Place trommel sound- they were here when it started up and said they would make representations to Brian Place-since when the sound is slightly improved, but is still basically unacceptable. 1st Place have both a trommel AND a "Powertrak" aggregates crusher machine and we believe the latter is the real culprit.

Last month, there was another retrospective planning application from Epsom Skips to bring their trommel (on an adjoining site to 1st Place) within proper planning permission with SCC - as we all believe there has been an illegal "change of use" from simply waste transfer, to waste processing, on site. Both my neighbour (no 55, Longdown Lane North) and myself have made formal objections to SCC, and they sent a noise consultant round to our house-unfortunately the machine was not operating that day, so no noise!. However, we did make our own audio/video recording of the sound (like a helicopter rotor blades turning on the ground) which we have submitted to the noise consultant. The Epsom Skips trommel is in a more protected location, and not so noisy as the "Powertrak" machine, so we believe we are unlikely to be able to stop this permission being granted, but we will see - we are hoping that "conditions" will be imposed, so that SCC have the power to insist on some screening or noise reduction procedures, and to enforce it

All residents who are affected by the noise when it occurs are urged to ring the Environment Agency "hotline" complaints number, as they are then obliged to investigate - but the key target remains the 1st Place "Powertrak" machine which is unreasonably intrusive.”
